FRONTLINE HIV Forum Meeting June 2010

FRONTLINE HIV Forum Meetings:

Members: General Members Forum held at The Kobler Clinic, 4th Floor

Date: 1st June 2010
Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Attendees: 8
Apologies: 4

Following the sad passing of our dear friend Jim Smith, whose tireless advocacy on our behalf will never be forgotten, and due to the sadness felt by all, this month’s forum meeting was somewhat unstructured, to allow those present to express their emotions. Jim with his care and his kindness was a true champion for all those affected through HIV.

He will be greatly missed.

A letter is to be sent to Kathryn of the River House Trust thanking her and all the staff for their arrangement celebrating Jim’s life.

The chair is to try to take over as a representative on the trustee’s member council of the Chelsea and Westminster Foundation Trust, which was one of the positions that were all admirably carried out by Jim.

It is proposed to invite someone from the River House Trust’s over 50’s member’s council to join the forum to liaise between us and to forge links, create workshops, and to encourage volunteers in the future.

The chair proposed holding social events, possibly four times per year, which would have no real agenda except to network, develop relationships with other patient groups and organisations. Any person interested in arranging these social events would receive support and training in budgeting and planning.

With the new economic situation Dr.Pozniak, Service Director for HIV Services, should be invited back sometime in the future to discuss the new programme as it develops.

The new National Health System Summary Care Record is being introduced which will change the way patient’s health information is stored and managed. Concern was raised that patient’s health information will be passed to their GP. Anyone who does not wish to have a summary care record made for them should complete and return a form to their GP before the end of June. This form can be found at GP surgeries or at www.nhscarerecords.nhs.uk. Two copies of this form should be made, one to be given to notify your consultant and be kept with your hospital record, and one to be kept as proof of your intention to opt out. Inaction will result in a summary care record being established on your behalf through default.

It was decided that in the future representatives from the HIV drug companies should be invited to appraise the forum of up to date information regarding medications.

The new “Ron Johnson” ward will require some public relation to announce its replacement of the Thomas Macaulay ward, to make patients aware of this new facility.

Clarification is required to determine the exact questions that will be asked in regard to achieving targets in commissioning for quality in sexual health. These questions cover such matters as finance, effectiveness of treatment, patient experience, adherence, disclosure, prevention, and referrals to health advisors. Should targets not be achieved 1.5 percent of the budget will be lost.

There has been only minor progress made with the ageing project due to ill health.

It was decided after discussion that future forum meetings will continue to be held on the first Tuesday of each month at the same time; however this remains open to future debate.

The next meeting of the KVN Forum will be held at:
The Kobler Clinic
4th Floor,
St Stephens Centre
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
